VENDOR FAQ

The details before you apply.

How do I become a vendor?

We open applications each November for the following year. You'll tell us about your business, products and preferred space type. We carefully review applications based on product fit, presentation and available space to create a thoughtful mix of businesses and products that complement one another.

When will I know if I've been accepted?

Applicants are notified by the end of November. Accepted vendors will receive information about available spaces, contracts and setup. New vendors generally move in during the first week of January.

Do I have to live near the store?

Not necessarily, but whether you're local or out of town, you'll need a plan for keeping your space stocked, maintained and looking its best. Vendors must complete their initial setup in person, and we encourage regular visits whenever possible. However, vendors can manage spaces from a distance through shipments, communication with our team and monitoring their sales.

How much does a space cost?

Vendors pay a monthly space fee plus 15% of sales. Fees vary based on space size, type and location within the store. Explore our Maps & Pricing section above to find options that fit your business and budget.

Are there any additional fees?

Yes. Vendors are responsible for credit card processing fees, along with applicable software, printing and payment fees. All current fees are outlined in our Vendor Packet available to download in the section above.

What types of spaces are available?

We offer a variety of wall, table and rack spaces. You can indicate your preferences when applying, and we'll work to find the best fit if accepted. Availability is determined after current vendor placements are finalized, so the maps do not necessarily reflect openings.

What does The Maker and Merchant provide?

We provide the storefront, basic fixtures such as tables, walls and racks, vendor signage, staffing, marketing, point-of-sale system and daily operations. Our team handles customer service, checkout, utilities and general store expenses, allowing you to focus on your products and business.

Do I have to work in the store?

No! Our team staffs the stores seven days a week, assists customers and handles sales. You are responsible for maintaining your space and merchandise, but you do not need to work shifts.

Who is responsible for my display and fixtures?

We provide basic fixtures, such as tables, walls and racks. Walls are supplied with retail brackets and shelves. Vendors supply products and smaller displays to merchandise their spaces. Any large fixtures, signage and major display changes must be approved in advance to maintain a cohesive shopping experience.

How often do I need to restock?

Regular restocking is essential! Vendors are expected to monitor sales and keep their spaces full, fresh and seasonally appropriate. Some spaces require more frequent attention than others, so it's important to stay on top of your inventory and display. We'd love to see or hear from you at least once a month, and more often as needed You can restock anytime during regular store hours.

Can I ship merchandise to the store?

Yes! After your initial in-person setup, you may ship properly tagged, ready-to-sell merchandise for restocking. Please review our Vendor Packet for shipping guidelines. Shipping does not replace your responsibility to maintain your display and visit as needed.

Can I monitor my sales and inventory remotely?

Yes! Vendors have access to our online portal, Consignor Access, where they can track their sales, monitor inventory, review account balances and view payouts.

How do I tag my merchandise?

All merchandise must be entered into our point-of-sale system and tagged with The Maker and Merchant barcode labels. Labels can be printed at home or picked up at the store. Complete instructions are provided in the Vendor Packet available to download in the section above.

When and how do I get paid?

Vendor sales are paid monthly by direct deposit. Your commission, applicable fees and upcoming month's space fee are deducted from sales before payment. A credit card must be kept on file for fees not covered by sales. For new vendors, your first month's space fee is due before move-in.

Who handles sales tax?

We calculate, collect and remit applicable sales tax on purchases made in our stores. Vendors remain responsible for their own business tax obligations.

What is the contract term?

Vendor contracts run for 12 months, January through December, and automatically renew unless proper notice is given. Vendors must provide at least 30 days' notice before the end of the term if they do not wish to renew. Early departures do not eliminate remaining contractual obligations.

If I'm already a vendor, do I need to reapply?

No! Existing vendor contracts automatically renew each year. If you'd like to change your space, please email the ownership team at info@themakerandmerchant.com. Vendors interested in joining an additional location must submit a new application.

What if I can't manage a dedicated space?

We'd still love to hear from you! Through our Share Your Product program, we purchase select merchandise directly from small businesses to carry in our stores. It's another way to grow your business without maintaining a dedicated space.
